Welcome to Lotus Counselling
Welcome, and thank you for visiting Lotus Counselling. My name is Danielle and I offer a supportive space for adults to explore anxiety, low mood, relationship challenges, LGBTQ+ related experiences and other difficulties they may be facing.

My first experience of counselling was as a client. I remember the feeling of being heard and how I felt safe to talk about what was happening for me at the time. I didn't feel judged or that I was expected to "just get over it" - I had time and space to attend to things, to heal.
This experience gave me the motivation to become a counsellor - to be able to offer others the safety, transparency and warmth that I had felt.
Since that time I have gained academic qualifications and nearly nine years of experience from volunteering and then providing counselling to adults (18+). I started Lotus Counselling in 2025 - the name reflects how, like lotus flowers, people can grow when they have the support and care that helps them to move through life's challenges.
Counselling is not one size fits all and to support you fully, I have adapted my practice to be as individual as you are. Some of my qualifications are listed below, but I have also worked with a variety of presenting issues, including:
Bereavement (including child and pet loss)
Autism
ADHD
Anxiety
Depression
Relationship issues (including friendships)
Stress and trauma
LGBTQ+ related issues
As a counsellor, I provide a safe, non-judgemental space for you to reflect on what is causing you difficulty in your life.
I am a person-centred counsellor, which means the sessions are about you, your experience and your feelings.
I remain myself within the therapeutic space, which means I respond to what you say with curiosity or gentle challenge - the benefit of this is that it supports you to acknowledge things about yourself or your experiences, which in turn helps you to realise new things that allow you to move towards positive change.
I am a registered member of the BACP, and my work is guided by its Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
What Clients Say
I offer counselling in Stalybridge, Tameside and across Greater Manchester, providing a calm and supportive space for adults seeking help with a range of emotional and psychological difficulties.
I currently conduct in-person sessions at Academy HQ in Stalybridge, with free parking available and full wheelchair access.
Alongside in-person sessions, I also offer online and telephone counselling, making support accessible wherever you are in the UK.
Sessions are available for adults (18+). If you’re unsure which option feels right for you, we can explore this together during an initial conversation.

Counselling is effective when a client feels they can open to, and ultimately trust, their counsellor. For this purpose, I offer a no obligation, 30-minute, free telephone call to see if we would work well together.
I provide in person and remote sessions that last for 50 minutes and are charged at the following rates:
In-person counselling costs £55 per session
Online/Telephone counselling costs £45 per session
Please note that I offer a reduced rate based on financial circumstances (limited spaces) to trainee counsellors, keyworkers, low income, OAP's, students and those who are unemployed. Please contact me to discuss this further.
It is best to email me as I cannot take calls when I am conducting sessions.
Contact with me should only relate to your sessions – booking, cancelling or rescheduling them. Should you need immediate support outside of your sessions, please contact NHS direct telephone 111, your GP, the emergency services or the Samaritans Freephone 116123.
I currently conduct in-person sessions at Academy HQ, Stalybridge – the building has a free car park and is fully accessible for wheelchair users. If you have a preference for remote sessions these will happen via telephone or Zoom.
Initially, to develop the therapeutic relationship and build trust, it is recommended to attend weekly. However, if you feel that a weekly session is no longer useful then I have the option to offer sessions fortnightly or monthly.
This depends on what you are currently struggling with and how soon trust is built between us. Should you have an idea of how many sessions you feel you need then please share this with me during the introductory call.
Please contact 24 hours before your session – this can be a text or by responding to your email reminder. Notifying me with less than 24 hours’ notice may result in a fee.
